If you want to skim read the article, here's a short reply - Yes and no. Yes you should use a PCT after your cycle if you want your hormonal levels to return to normal, No you won't die if you don't do a PCT but fair enough, I'm sure some people out there really do think having hormone imbalances is worth saving £30-40. Yes, do a PCT.
But why?
PCT stands for Post Cycle Therapy. Post Cycle Therapy is a course of tablets taken after your steroid or pro-hormone course in order to return your hormonal levels back to what they should be. It gained popularity as time went by though, and certainly wasn't something always available to bodybuilders. Certainly in the 'olden days', bodybuilders would do 12-20 week cycles of Testosterone injections and not even bat an eyelids over PCT. Certainly in the modern world it isn't unpopular either not to do PCT, I myself know a number of people currently taking steroids who do not know what post cycle therapy is.
So why worry about it? If older bodybuilders didn't take it and get no side effects, why should you? If you know a few people who do it and have no side effects, why should you?
Well the next question to ask if have you ever seen a bodybuilder on stage who has gyno? No. The simplicity of it is any of them who did get side effects from steroids no doubt discontinued using them. Certainly discontinuing their career before stepping on stage. If your friends have no side effects, good for them. But when it comes to your hormones why would you take such a massive risk? Having your hormones all over the place increasing chances of Acne, Gyno, Hair Loss, Testicular Atrophy, Impotency, becoming Infertile...it all just isn't worth it. You could fix this, prevent it happening in the first place. Ever asking "Why should I do PCT" is like asking "Should I wipe after I've spent a long time in the bathroom?", well you don't have to if you don't want to buddy but it'll be a choice you regret.
A proper PCT should-
- Block the production of estrogen or destroy aromataze enzymes
- Boost Luteinizing hormone levels
- Boost Natural testosterone
- Stabilise blood pressure
- Return sex drive to normal
- Keep your gains from your cycle
That's a lot to save. If you don't do a PCT you could run risk of-
- Impotent
- Have increased Acne
- Develop Gynecomastia (bitch tits)
- Become Infertile
- Develop mood swings
- Develop prolactin induced Gyno, which can't be effectively treated without surgery once caused
- Lose the gains that you worked hard for during a cycle
So you know, take your pick. As said PCT is there for a reason, if you have the money to run a cycle then you should value your hormones enough to run a PCT. In almost all cases PCT is just 1 months course of tablets and after it you can truly sit back and enjoy your hard earned physique in comfort.
